Evangelism Training at Church - Week 6

Tonight was week 6 teaching evangelism at Tri-Lakes Center church. We watched the Way of the Master episode, "The Motive of the Sinner". There were approx. 82 people here tonight.

I think folks were very responsive as to how important it is for a sinner to come to Christ for the biblical reason, which is to save them from the wrath to come...instead of coming to Christ for a better lifestyle.

I discussed my friend and brother in Christ that died today of cancer (Mitchell Barnett) as part of the teaching (he attended our church). If someone comes to Christ for a "better life", then when something bad happens, (like praying for our friend to be healed of cancer)--and it doesn't happen and he dies--someone that came to Christ for a happy lifestyle will likely fall away, become bitter towards God, and not want to have anything to do with Christians because they already tried it out and it "didn't work" as the Christians told them it would. They feel like they were lied to, and they really have the right to feel this way.

We shouldn't tell someone that Jesus will give them peace, love, joy and lasting happiness as a reason to come to Christ. If we do that, they will get "saved" for the wrong reasons. And like it is stated above, when something bad happens in their life, they will become angry with God. God did not promise Christians a happy, carefree life after they are born-again. He actually promised us temptation and tribulation. If we are born-again, and come to Christ for the purpose of missing hell and going to heaven, due to what Jesus did for us...it won't matter if we have problems in this life. We won't cast off the Lord Jesus when trials and temptations hit our life. Jesus will be with us through our problems. He will give us a peace that passes understanding, as the bible says.

One man said that he came to Christ for a "better life", and is it possible that someone can come to Christ for that reason and then change. I told him that it is possible to come to Christ for the "wrong reasons", but then have biblical training and learn the what it means to truly be born-again.

Overall, it was a good night. This upcoming Sunday our WOTM Sunday School class is beginning. We'll start watching the other episodes. The pastor named the class, "Winning Evangelism".

SWAT TEAM Witnessing - 9/24/05

Street Witnessing And Training
Taking Evangelism Across Missouri

Today we drove to Joplin, Missouri to visit with our friends and fellow GNN Seed Sower, Teresa Stevens. There was a Bluegrass Music and Crafts Fall Festival at Center Creek Park in Carl Junction, Missouri (close by Joplin). Teresa wanted to attend and pass out gospel tracts and witness. We went to participate and do just what our witnessing team name, S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M. stands for, "Taking Evangelism Across Missouri", and not just in Branson, Missouri.

All of us that went out were: Teresa and Ken Stevens, their daughter, Pam and son-in-law, Joe (Joe was our camera man that videotaped some of our conversations with people) and their baby, me, Leann and our daughter, Alexis.
Here is a pic of all of right before we headed off to witness at the Bluegrass Festival:

Here is a pic of Teresa talking with Sherry, who has seen a "Way of the Master" episode, and thinks it's a great way to witness to someone without being offensive.

I didn't get this lady's name, but she said that she was a Christian. When I asked her if I can role-play with her to show her how we witness to someone who is not saved, she got really uneasy and didn't want to talk any longer (after I started going through the Law with her).
The kids really liked the Giant $100 bill gospel tracts. I pray that they read them, as well as let their parents read them.
We pass out tracts to just about everyone we see. People also just come up to use and ask for them. Many times, they ask if they can have additional tracts to give to their friend, family or kids. That's great!!
Teresa gave me a few Hell's Best Kept Secret CD's to pass out. I talked to Ann, another lady named Patty and gave them both a "HBKS CD". They said they were both Christians and interested in this Way of the Master method of evangelism. I pray that they would listen to it and then get in contact with Teresa.
I had some other conversations with people. Just about everyone I come into contact says they are a Christian. We go though the role-play and I show them what we say to "non-Christians". This way, they hear the law and grace (the gospel) even though they say they are Christians. We need to remember that not everyone who says they are a Christian is really a Christian.
We had a great time. It was very encouraging. We thank God for Teresa and Ken. They fed us really well also!! Praise God for what He is doing in Joplin with Teresa and Ken.

Branson SWAT TEAM Witnessing - 9/17/05

Street Witnessing And Training
Taking Evangelism Across Missouri
Well, Praise God! Leann and I, along with out my 11 year old daughter, Alexis, took our Way of the Master class from church, Tri-Lakes Center, out to historic downtown Branson to pass out tracts and share the gospel one-2-one with people. Overall, there were 8 people that came out, plus GNN Seed Sower Teresa Stevens and her husband Ken, from Joplin, Missouri. That's a total of 13 people.
We met at the church for last minute instruction and prayer before heading out. My pastor was taking video all throughout the witnessing time. He took the video, along with the pictures that Leann took, and had them made into a video with background music (because the audio was not good). He burned me a copy of the DVD. If I can figure out how to do it, I will put it on my website. He played it during Sunday morning service. He talked about how glad he was of the team that went out to evangelize and share their faith in this training. He introduced Teresa and Ken Stevens (Seed Sower) that drove to Branson from Joplin to assist in the training.

I want to thank Teresa and Ken for coming down. We had a great time out witnessing together, as well as visiting all day and evening Saturday. They are truly a blessing. Thank God for you!

Here is a pic of some of us. The others met us out there.

There was an Arts and Crafts Fair going on when we arrived. They had some of the streets blocked off. Many people were downtown.

Here is a picture of me talking with Jeana and Jackie from the Chicago area. That is my pastor behind us (Pastor Mark Shorey). He was video taping the one-2-one. We went through the law and grace and they seemed interested. They thought we were all going to be forgiven, though. We went through how that they would not be forgiven unless they repented and turned from their sin and trusted in Jesus Christ as their Savior. They thanked me for talking with them.

Here is Larry Moody from the WOTM class. He is in charge of the Men's Ministry at the church. He didn't even wait around for any on-site training. We went off on his own, with his wife, Robbin, and two teenage daughters, and started out by passing out tracts and asking people, "Would you consider yourself to be a good person?"

Larry is passionate about reaching the lost and sharing his faith. He had a very long conversation with a different man that was being intellectual regarding religion. The man thought all roads lead to God. Larry was very patient and explained what the Bible says. The man said that Larry sounded very sincere, and what he was saying was very interesting, IF he could only be sure that he was correct. This man had the Word of God planted in his life. It will not return void.

Here is a lady that either my wife or daughter (Alexis is on the right side in the orange shirt) handed a tract to. She stood there and read it outloud, then kept reading it for quite a while, really pondering what she read.

Here I am talking with Ed, who lives in Branson. He works down at one of the restaurants. He said that he is a Christian. We went through the law and grace anyway, just so that he could hear it.

Here is Seed Sower, Teresa Stevens along with Vivian, who is from our class. Teresa was training Vivian in how to use the law and grace out in the street. Vivian only attended one class then came out with us. She has a passion for the lost.

Now, this gentleman's name is Bill from Jacksonville, Arkansas. He is a retired chaplin, but he is apparently still working as a chaplin. I gave him a couple tracts for his grandkids. He stated that he was already born-again. I asked him if we could do a role-play and go through how we are out sharing our faith. I went through the law and grace. Notice the gentleman beside us leaning up against the post office box. He is listening very intently to everything that is being said, as well as the lady behind us. I was talking loud enough for all of them to hear.

Teresa decided to do open-air preaching. One of the ladies that goes to our church, Darlene, owns a store in downtown Branson. She loaned Teresa a chair to use for elevation. She did a great job! She went through some trivia questions giving away dollars. Then she got a volunteer for the "Good Person Test". She went through the law and grace with her.
After the open-air, a teacher from a local school came up and said she was a teacher, as well as the Youth for Christ teacher at the school. She said that she would be interested in getting this taught to the Youth for Christ at the school. Teresa gave her a "Hell's Best Kept Secret" CD and her e-mail address. I gave her my ministry card as well. I hope she calls.

This is Leann and I along with Teresa and Ken. After the witnessing, we went out to eat. We then drove around Branson. It was here that two men were drinking a beer and smelling of alcohol while looking at the water. I handed them each a million dollar bill gospel tract. They said thanks and walked to their truck. They yelled over and asked for another one for their kids.
I gave them another, as well as pulled the pink and blue illusion tract on them. They said, "Hey, the police need to use that one!" hehe Here they were drinking and driving and saying that.
Larry also had a good conversation with a young couple named Heather and Ryan from Excelsior Springs, Missouri (just Northeast of Kansas City, MO). They were youth leaders from a church up there, if I am remembering correctly. They were interested in teaching this there. I gave them my ministry card and said to contact me and I will assist them any way I can.
Both my wife and I had other conversations with quite a few folks, going through the law and grace, as well as did the other people from the class. The people all seem to be receiving this well.
Overall, we didn't pass out as many tracts as last weekend, because many of the people we passed out tracts to were willing to talk. That's a good thing!!
Thank you to the folks that have been praying for us.
Please click on "comments" below and leave me your opinion.
I thank God for you.

Evangelism Training at Church - Week 5

Tonight was week 5...we watched "Ice Breakers" (Gospel Tracts) from the Way of the Master, and discussed it. We had 87 people in class tonight. They thought using gospel tracts were a good idea...especially using good ones. Probably more than half said they have passed out tracts at one point or the other. Jeanne, from the class that went out with us witnessing last Saturday, got up and talked to everyone. She said that it was not scary like she thought it would be, and that most people didn't get offended at all. I was hoping with her saying this that it would draw more out into hitting the streets with us, and not to be so worried about it.

We discussed some witnessing stories we had the other day while out witnessing, as well as others I had in OKC. They liked hearing about those. We showed various Living Waters tracts. We were also selling them at our WOTM table. The church bought them up and we're doing the repackaging and selling. We purchased a bunch, and now they are about gone!

About 10 people said they were planning on going out with us this upcoming Saturday to witness in historic downtown Branson. We are having a person or two that uses this "Way of the Master" method of evangelism come down to go out with us Saturday. That will ensure that everyone is trained properly.

After we went witnessing last Saturday, Leann and I went to the police station and asked if there were any special laws we needed to know about before taking our church group out to witness. They said it was soliciting and we needed a permit. I politely told them it wasn't soliciting and we have the right to pass out gospel literature and share our faith on the public streets and sidewalks. They told us to go to City Hall.

Leann called the City of Branson. She informed them of our rights as Christians. The lady said she'd have to make some calls to see if we were right. Another lady called Leann back and said we were free to go witness, that we didn't need a permit. Just not to block entrances to stores, don't block the sidewalks, etc. So we will meet up Saturday and hit the streets. I will let you know how it goes.

Branson S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M. Witnessing - 9/10/05

Street Witnessing And Training
Taking Evangelism Across Missouri

This afternoon we went to historic downtown Branson, Missouri to pass out gospel tracts and witness to people. We took our team, which so far consists of myself, my wife Leann, my 13 year old son, Dillon, and my 11 year old daughter, Alexis. We also had the company of a lady named Jeanne Sawyer, who is from our Way of the Master Foundation Course at church, go out to observe us passing out tracts and witnessing.

It was a fairly crowded day in downtown Branson. There were quite a few bus tours there at the time, all doing sightseeing and shopping. There are many retirees here. It is amazing how many people say they are Christians when you go to speak with them.

Before we were even able to head different directions, I spoke to a man and his wife who walked past us, seen the Giant $100 Bills in my hand, and asked if we were giving away money. I gave them 2. Then proceeded to ask what they thought happens to us when we die? They believed in heaven and hell. The man said that he would go to heaven. We went through the law and some grace, but then when I asked them if they would been innocent or guilty on Judgement Day, the wife said that we won't be judged. They said that they were Christians. They thanked me for talking with them.

I took Dillon and went on one side of the block, and my wife took Alexis and Jeanne and stood across the street. We probably passed out 500 gospel tracts between all of us. Many of them were the "Million Dollar Bill" and the "Giant $100 Bills". Some "America America" and some "Pink and Blue's". I would say it's a toss up for the favorite one...some people liked the Giant $100 Bills and some liked the "Million Dollar Bills" best.

I spoke to a gentleman named Sam. Sam is a Christian from Houston. He was there with his wife and about 5 kids-not sure if they were all his. Some of the younger adult kids said they did go though some "Way of the Master" training, which is a very Biblical way of evangelism, in Texas. I gave Sam my ministry card. He said he will contact me about having someone in his area contact him in regards to this training. He is interested in possibly going out to witness. Sam and his wife said that they liked the name of our ministry, "Repent and Turn Ministries". And that Christians now days are not really doing the "repenting" part, that they are living just like the world. They were looking for a church to go to Sunday morning. I told him about my church, and he said they will plan on seeing us there.

After speaking with Sam, Dillon showed me there were three ladies in a parked van waving to us. We went over and they asked if they could have 5 of the Giant $100 Bills. I gave them the tracts. I informed them that it was a gospel tract. They said they were all Christians. I asked if they considered themselves to be good people, they did. Do you think you've kept the Ten Commandments? We went through the law and grace. They thanked me for doing this.

Leann and Alexis, along with Jeanne, passed out many Million Dollar Bills. She took two sets of people through the law (asking if they lied, stolen, lusted and blasphemed). After going through the law, one lady mentioned that they were Christians, and told Leann she didn't have to go through the grace, then left. The other lady was taken through the law, and then when the question, "Would you be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgement?" came about, the husband said, we have to go. They left.

Dillon and I walked up to three elderly women named Julie, Norma and Bee from Florida (they told me it was pronounced "Flaurida" hehe) sitting on a bench on the sidewalk. We gave them some gospel tracts. They said they were all Christians. We talked a while and I asked if I could show them how we go about witnessing to someone that "isn't a Christian". We went through the law and grace. They thanked us and said it was very interesting. They said that they didn't lust, though. In their generation, it wasn't like it is now...people didn't go around lusting all the time because of what is on television, etc.

One group of 3 men, retirees here with a church group, were standing around. It looked like were waiting on their wives. I started talking to them. They didn't want to take a gospel tract and finally did so. They thought they were good people. We started going through the law and they looked insulted that I was asking them these questions. Only one man ended up speaking, the one that seemed more offended, and said that he is going to heaven because he is saved. I went through grace anyway. I thanked them and talked to them a while longer about Branson shows, etc.

There were a couple of people that said they were good people, but when I asked them if they have kept the Ten Commandments, they said "pretty much". Then when I asked if we could go through some of them to see how they do, they refused. It appeared to me that they didn't want to be shown exactly how much they have offended God.

Overall, people were very friendly. We thank God for Jeanne coming out with us today.

Next Saturday, we are planning on taking a group of people to downtown Branson to pass out gospel tracts and witness.

Evangelism Training at Church - Week 4

We played "WDJD - What DID Jesus Do" last night (September 7th) from the Way of the Master series. It was great! Choir practice started during the same time as the class, taking about 25-30 people, but we still had 89 people there.

Before I went up to teach, Pastor Mark Shorey said he wanted to talk a little. He said that it is every Christian's responsibility to preach the Word and witness to others. It is not only for pastors, etc. He said if we could just get a group to go out and witness, we will win this city to Christ. We will be going out as a church group to witness next Satuday, 9/17 in downtown Branson.

Leann (my wife) went over the Ten Commandments memorization page with everyone, one by one. We had lots of compliments about showing them how to memorize the Ten Commandments. There is a little picture beside each one, that will keep you from ever forgetting them...even the correct order in which they go in.

I read a fellow Christians' letter (he lives in Austrailia) about getting attacked while open air preaching. Their laws are different. We have freedom of speech here in America. I mentioned that the worst thing that is likely to happen to us is that we will be told, "I don't want that tract" or "I don't want to talk" when they are trying to do one-2-one witnessing. If a Christian can put up with being attacked and keep preaching, then we can put up with a "No thanks" from someone.

Everyone was excited about learning the step-by-step instructions showing how to witness, which was shown in this video and teaching. Everyone is understanding how important it is to use the law (Ten Commandments) when witnessing. Here is a quick guideline:

  • WDJD - What Did Jesus Do (See John 4:7-26)
  • Start a conversation in the natural and swing it to the spiritual
  • W – Ask them, "Would you consider yourself to be a good person?"
  • D – "Do you think you have kept the Ten Commandments?" (see www.needgod.com)
  • The majority of humanity believes that some amount of good
works is sufficient to gain them entrance into heaven. Let's ask
a few questions to see if God will consider you "good enough"
to go to heaven. Be honest with yourself and before God as
    you answer these questions.

    1. Have you ever told a lie?
The Ninth of the Ten Commandments is "You shall not lie." Telling
just one lie, according to God's standards, makes you a "liar." In
Revelation 21:8, God says, "...all liars, shall have their part in the
    lake of fire..."

    2. Have you ever stolen anything (no matter how
    small)?
The Eighth of the Ten Commandments is "You shall not steal."
Stealing just one thing (regardless of it's size or monetary value),
according to God's standards, makes you a "thief." In I Corinthi-
ans 6:10, God says, "No thieves... ...shall inherit the kingdom of
    God."

    3. Have you ever looked at someone and had
    lustful thoughts?
The Seventh of the Ten Commandments is "You shall not
commit adultery." If you've ever looked at another person with
lustful thoughts, according to God's standards, that makes you
an "adulterer." Jesus said, "You have heard it said, You shall
not commit adultery: But I say to you, that whoever looks on a
woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already
in his heart." (Matthew 5:28) In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, God says
that no adulterers "...shall inherit the kingdom of God."

    4. Have you ever used "God," "Jesus," or "Christ,"
as a curse word? (Example: "Oh my G-d!")
The Third of the Ten Commandments is "You shall not take the
name of the Lord in vain." If you've ever used the name "God,"
"Jesus," or "Christ" as a curse word, what you've done is take the
name of the God who gave you life, and you've used it as if it were
a "four-letter" filth word to express disgust. That offense is called
"blasphemy," and according to God's standards, you are a
"blasphemer." In Leviticus 24:16 , God says, "he that blasphemes
the name of the LORD, shall surely be put to death..."
  • J – Judgement. "On the Day of Judgement, if God judges you by the Ten Commandments, will you be innocent or guilty?"
  • D – Destiny. Gently ask them…"Will you go to heaven or hell?" and "Does that concern you?"
  • Then lead them through salvation verses and tell how we broke God's law but Jesus paid our fine
There was a lady from another church there tonight. She wanted to know how to get this info to her pastor. I gave her my card and the WOTM website address. She said her pastor may be calling me to discuss this evangelism training with him.
