Power and Light District Street Preaching

Power & Light District - Kansas City, MO

Street Preaching & Witnessing

November 10, 2017

Brad St. Clair Open Air Preaching & Reading the Bible

We went street preaching and witnessing in the Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.  I've recently became the Street Witnessing Outreach Leader for the Kansas City Evangelists' Fellowship.  We decided that we would start out with hitting the Power and Light District and seeing how this goes.

There weren't any huge events going on this night, but there were a good number of people walking around.  Tonight it was Mike and I who was able to make it out.  Mike is the one who took the pictures.  I thank God for Mike.  He is such a blessing and committed to reach the lost with the gospel.

We arrived and set up at the corner we like, then we started passing out gospel tracts to people walking by.  We probably gave out around 85 gospel tracts.

Sometimes people are in a hurry and don't have time to stop and have a witnessing conversation.  This is when the tract comes in handy.  They can take it with them and read the gospel.  The Holy Spirit will then convict their heart.  I've heard and read of many who have been saved from reading gospel tracts.

I have a little headset and speaker that we take downtown and start open air preaching.  There were police officers downtown and even one that walked right in front of me while I was preaching with the speaker and he didn't say a word about it being illegal.  We also brought the little step stool to stand on, which gives the person elevation when preaching.

The step stool is used for several reasons.  The person preaching can see better, the crowds can see who is speaking, and if someone wants to come up and start talking or arguing with the preacher, then it gives some elevation to keep them out of our face, which can be distracting and stop the gospel message from going forth.  Sometimes Satan wants to stop the message from getting to the hearing of the unsaved. People must hear the gospel to be saved.

Romans 10:14 says, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"

The open air preaching also gives the people who are not next to us the opportunity to hear the gospel message.  The Holy Spirit will then bring the gospel back to their minds and convict their hearts.

God's Word in Isaiah 55:11, "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."

If you are a Christian, I just want to encourage you to start sharing your faith.  Share the gospel to those around you.  If you don't feel like you should be going to the downtown areas to do street witnessing, then you can still share in your circle of influence.  You have your friends, family, coworkers, and even those you "bump into" during the day.  God can bring you divine appointments.

Many Christians think that sharing the gospel is not their "gifting", and choose to allow others who are "gifted" to do this work.  But I say that Jesus commanded all Christians to share the gospel.  Sharing the gospel is not a gift, it's a commend from Jesus.

Mark 16:15, "And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

We are to start in our circle of friends and family, and then move out from there.  It is a command to be obeyed, not an option to be considered.

We can say we love God and love the lost and don't want them to go to hell.  However, if we don't put works - action - in our words and faith, it does no good.

Remember James 2:14 & 20, "What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?  But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?"

If you don't really know how to share your faith / share the gospel, we can study to learn this.  There is no better thing to learn.  You can be the reason someone goes to heaven and misses hell.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Please pray for those who heard the gospel message this night.
